Good move as Curtis joins

Bradford City have announced the signing of Newcastle United’s former Melbourne Heart defender Curtis Good.

Good, who has joined on loan until 2 January, 2013, will wear shirt number 27 and comes in as cover for the unfortunate John Egan, who suffered a broken leg against Plymouth in midweek.

On-loan Egan has since returned to his parent club Sunderland.

Good, 19, was born in Melbourne, and joined Newcastle on a six-year deal after making 25 appearance for Melbourne Heart in the 2011-2012 season, his first as a professional.

Standing 6′ 1” tall, Good impressed in his only season in Australia, the left-footed central defender formed a youthful central defensive pairing with Brendan Hamill. Hamill has since secured a lucrative move to Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in Korea.

While Good is yet to make an appearance in Newcastle first team, he should be match fit as has been a regular for their Under 21 side this season and also played a key role in Australia’s Young Socceroos side which reached the semi-finals of the AFC U-19 Championship in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.

Good could make his debut for City at Bristol Rovers this weekend, after his move went through just two minutes before the loan window shut.

He joins fellow Aussie James Meredith in Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Aussie Meredith joins City

Most Bradford City fans will be pleased with the signing of James Meredith, if only because the position he plays – left-back – is one that needed filling ahead of the new season.

That he appears to be highly-rated after impressing at York is even better, of course, but for us there is genuine excitement at the 24-year-old signing on.

Meredith, you see, was born in the New South Wales city of Albury, immediately pushing him into hero status with us. We shall be watching – from afar, admittedly – his progress with some interest.
